This actually screams post-modern art deco when you look at it properly. The lines are all the fluid, geometric forms of art deco, but taken to a streamlined form ala Bauhaus.
Month: October 2019
Wednesday
The composition of this painting reminds me, funnily enough, of a candle, both in coloring and in structural elements. It has a very distinct feel to it, and even the paint reflects light and shimmers like the flame of a candle.
Tuesday
A little tiny coin with Jesus on it… because idolatry wasn’t a thing with the early church? I mean, yeah, that argument ship has sailed and we’ve got the Renaissance to prove it.
Monday
The patina is so pretty… Hell, the casting is so pretty.
Sunday
I’d really like to think that this dude was the winner of some slam-dunk poetry recital ala a rap battle where they went toe to toe in a ring duking it out over the gods or some hot guy’s body in verbal deference. Because it makes me smile.
Saturday
The Romans were really into lead. It’s a wonder enough people survived Roman civilization to populate the world, to be brutally honest.
Friday
Yeah, so, I’m so glad we know about lead poisoning now because looking back on history, we can sit there and go, “Hey, yeah, you know y’all are poisoning your water/wine supply right? That you’re going to eventually die from drinking tainted liquids?” Hindsight being what it is, and, like, Flint, Michigan being right in front of our faces.
Thursday
It’s small, warped pressed glass that’s somehow survived the ages. How? Who knows!
Wednesday
Does anyone else find it disturbing that, with very small differences, drinking vessels haven’t changed in thousands of years? I mean, my coffee mug is basically this dipper on steroids.
Tuesday
While this isn’t as old as some of the other things we’ve seen this week, it’s still pretty damn old and in remarkably good shape for as old as it is. I don’t even understand how some of these items have survived intact, except that they weren’t used – that’s the only explanation.
