Mmmm, traditional Greek sculpture. Let’s just admire it. I really don’t need to make pithy commentary, do I?

So… fun times. Religious art again. Because, ya know, Bible Belt and all. I am not a massive fan, but hey, it’s a huge part of our world heritage and so on and so forth. Whatever, it’s a thing. What bothers me about this is the descriptive plaque being completely ignorant about the fact that Mary would likely not have owned a Torah, and likely she would not have been reading even had she been a wealthy Jewish woman of the time, let alone marrying a carpenter – but yeah, let’s creatively fudge the facts to fit the Jesus mythos.

While this is my second favorite work of contemporary sculpture, I never really ascribed to it any of the conventional meanings. In fact, to me, it’s much more of a feeling of abstract notions rather than a direct equation, unlike most people’s interpretations of the work. However… man, it proves that I’m a nerd that I know the entire verse that goes on the plates.
What is a merry man/ Let him do what he can / To entertain his guests / With wine and merry jests / But if his wife do frown / All merriment goes down.
Monday
This chair is simply stunning. Though the lines are simple and swooping, they are meant to draw the eye and hold it. The contrast of the gilded coloring against the darkened wood is meant to direct your eyes inward to the exquisite upholstery. And, let’s face it: that cushioning is freaking fabulous.

I know armour’s purpose is to protect you, but in most cases, does it have to literally be so ostentatiously bloody shiny? You don’t have to carry your entire wealth on your body to protect your dumb fighting ass. In fact, you’d think it would be detrimental to the fighting, all that shininess, all that glare…
